7 Signs It's Time for In-Home Physical Therapy

It's easy to write off small changes as "just getting older." But many of them respond well to physical therapy, and when getting out of the house is hard, a therapist can come to you. Here are seven signs it may be time.

1. You've fallen, or almost fallen

Even one fall raises the risk of another. A balance evaluation can find the cause and build a plan to prevent the next one. Learn about our fall prevention program.

2. You hold onto furniture or walls to get around

This "furniture walking" is a common sign that balance or leg strength is slipping.

3. Getting up from a chair or bed is a struggle

Trouble standing up usually points to leg weakness, which targeted exercise can improve.

4. Stairs have become difficult or scary

Therapy can build strength and confidence, and we can recommend rails or other home safety changes.

5. You recently came home from the hospital or rehab

The move back home is a high-risk time. In-home therapy helps you get safely back to your routine.

6. You're living with Parkinson's, stroke or another neurological condition

Regular therapy helps you keep mobility and independence as long as possible. See our neurological therapy page.

7. Pain is keeping you from doing what you enjoy

Back, hip and knee pain often improve with the right movement and strengthening.
